NEWS AND ACTIVITY REPORT
Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce’s Government Affairs Committee to host our 9th Congressional District’s Congressman, Dan Meuser – April 5, 2019 On Friday, April 5, 2019, the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce’s Government Affairs Committee will host a luncheon event featuring special guest, Congressman Dan Meuser at the Schuylkill Country Club in Orwigsburg, Pa. Congressman Meuser plans to educate attendees on his district priorities for the 9th Congressional District, which includes revitalization, flooding and the opioid epidemic. He also plans to give a legislative update from Washington, D.C., followed by a formal question and answer period. Following his collegiate studies, Dan joined a small man- ufacturing company, Pride Health Care, and helped build the company into an industry leader and employer in the power mobility field. The company was later renamed Pride Mobility Products. In 2011, Governor Tom Corbett nominated Dan to serve as Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Revenue. Dan worked to reform the Department of Revenue (DOR), increase efficiencies, and put into place customer-first procedures. His leadership was recognized by the Council On State Taxation for having the most dramatic improvement of any department of revenue in the country, going from a D rating to an A-. Dan has donated resources and time to the YMCA Wilkes-Barre and Misericordia University and previously served as a member of PA State System of Higher Education and as the Campaign Chair of the Wyoming Valley Children’s Association. On January 3, 2019, Dan was sworn in as a member of the 116th Congress. He currently serves on the House Committee on Education and Labor, House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and House Committee on the Budget. In addition to his office in Washington, D.C., he has two district offices located in Pottsville and Palmyra.
Dan joined the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce a year ago while campaigning for the Republican nomination, before the primary election. He participated in both the primary and general Congressional Forums that were held in the D.H.H. Lengel Middle School Auditorium in April and October of 2018. He is a regular participant in the Chamber’s Transportation and Government Affairs Committees. This event is being held in lieu of this quarter’s Business Executive Forum. The Schuylkill Cham- ber of Commerce feels it is important to provide our members with opportunities to hear from our Congressman. Member tier credits will be applied for this event for our Visionary, Premier and Exec- utive members. This event is open to all members and future members. Registration is now available at www.schuylkillchamber.com or by calling the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce at 570-622- 1942. The cost of this luncheon event is $30 for members and $50 for future members.
